Port Blair, Feb 13: Steps-Aid India one of the registered charitable organization functioning in Andaman & Nicobar have requested the Lt Governor’s intervention to providing an electric connection to an Anganwadi at Austinabad.
In a letter addressed to the Lt Governor the General Secretary, STEPS-AID INDIA stated that the Anganwadi centre at Austinabad, near Mariamman Temple is functioning since long ago in a temporary shed. A permanent building was constructed under MPLAD scheme during the year 2003 and since then the Anganwadi is functioning in the present building but without electric connection.
“The tiny-tots merely under the age of 05 years are attending the Anganwadi and the pregnant and lactating mothers visiting the Anganwadi centre for various purposes who are suffering a lot without electricity. During the hot summer season the condition is very miserable. They usually present at the centre for 3 hrs daily in a condition of sweating as the premises is still functioning without lighting fan and exhauster,” the General Secretary said.
