Port Blair, Jan 22: Two week long environmental awareness, water quality monitoring and soil quality monitoring for rural students, tribal students and farmers of Little Andaman was organized by CPR, Environmental Education Centre, Port Blair in collaboration with Department of Science and Technology, Andaman and Nicobar Administration with the active support of Education Department & Agriculture department.
The students were provided with WATER TESTING KIT and book on WATER developed by CPR. Environmental Education Centre, Chennai. With the help of this kit students were tested parameters like pH, Chloride, Alkalinity, Hardness, Calcium, Magnesium, Phosphate, Sulphate, Iron, Microbial contamination, Turbidity, colour & Smell.
The aim of this project is to create awareness among the students about methods of handling the scientific equipment and to create interest towards science learning with their day to day experience through by learning by doing.
Such programmes were organised at Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Hut Bay; Govt. Secondary School, Harminder Bay ; Govt. Senior Secondary School, RamaKrishnapur ; Soil Quality monitoring for farmers of Ramakrishnapur ; Govt. Secondary School, Vivekanadapur and Govt. Middle School, Dugong Creek.
