Disappointed by Administration’s apathy, Bird Line Residents construct their own road

Port Blair, Dec 14: Nearly 15 families living in Papad Basti of Birdline today set an example for others by constructing their own black top road.
These residents have been demanding for construction of a black top road in their area since last nearly six years but neither Zilla Parishad nor Panchayat paid any heed.
Disappointed with the lack of concern from the side of PRI system and Administration, the residents contributed nearly Rs. 10,000 each and constructed their own black top road of nearly 500 mtrs, in length, with the help of a private contractor.
“The road may not be perfect but it is enough to bring some relief for us. This 500 mtr stretch of road was in horrible shape and was giving us daily nightmares,” said a resident of the area.
Earlier some residents of another village of the nearby area had repaired their own road when the Authority failed to respond.
This is a matter of great shame for the Administration that it has failed to fulfill the basic needs of general public, who are now indirectly forced to spend more money for their own road construction, even after paying regular taxes to government. “Is this the example of Modi Government’s ‘Ache Din’?” residents of Papad Basti questioned.
