Port Blair, Dec 11: The Port Blair Municipal Council have purchased four numbers “HEARSE” (Mortuary Van 2 A/c & 2 Non A/c) in larger public interest and inducted them into the fleet of Machineries and Transportation section of the Council.
In a simple function held today at 10.30am in the premises of Port Municipal Council, Shri.M.Arumugam Chairperson, PBMC flagged off the vehicles in the presence of Commissioner-cum-Secretary (PWD/UD), A&N Administration, Councillors and other officials of the Council. Earlier during the function proprietor of AG Motors handed over all the documents of vehicle to Chairperson PBMC-the agency from whom the vehicles were purchased at a cost of Rs.44,01,908/- under Plan scheme.
It is a long felt demand of public those who reside with in the Municipal area as well as in far flung Islands to shift the dead bodies from Port Blair to their native places to pay last rites to their departed souls. On induction of these vehicles, the general public can avail the facilities round the clock. The Council in its meeting held on 25/01/2014 resolved to procure the vehicles to provide facilities to General public. General public can seek assistance by calling 232431 or 245798.
