Port Blair, Dec 04: In an extraordinary story of survival at sea, a resident of Neil Island, who have been drifting for two days in Andaman Sea after boat wreck, was rescued by some fishermen near Bakra Island, this afternoon.
According to reports, the Neil Island resident, Mr. Sanjay Biswas with another friend of Neil Island Mr. Jayprakash left for Neil Island from Brookshabad on Tuesday at 1.30 PM with large quantity of liquor for Neil Island’s Coco Hut Bar and few drums of oil.
According to him, after nearly 90 minutes the dingihy capsized near Neil Island. Both Sanjay Biswas and Jayprakash caught hold of wooden planks and were drifting but after few hours Jayprakash suddenly went missing. Biswas kept his hope alive and was drifting aimlessly in Andaman Sea for nearly two days and he was lucky that he was located by a few fishermen near Bakra Island (opposite Cinque Island) and was rescued. Jayprakash is still missing.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Mr. Sanjay Biswas said that there were some holes in the dinghy, which resulted in this accident. “The dinghy capsized within minutes, we did not get time even to wear life jackets. But we both were drifting holding different wooden planks. Jayprakash was right on the opposite side for some hours but after that he virtually vanished,” Biswas added.
Biswas was brought to Aberdeen Jetty by the fishermen after rescuing him, from where he was taken to G B Pant Hospital. During last two days he reportedly consumed a lot of sea water and presently he is unable to eat anything. He has been kept under watch by Doctors. Search for Mr. Jayprakash is on.
