Port Blair, Dec 04: The Member of Parliament of A&N Constituency Shri Bishnu Pada Ray met Dr. Mahesh Sharma, the Minister of State (Independent charge), Minister of Culture/Tourism on 04.12.2014 at Parliament and appraised him of the sentiments of peoples of A&N Islands in general and people of Subashgram Diglipur in particular about the non-installation of statue of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose at Subash Gram, Diglipur.
According to a press release issued by the MP, it was brought to the notice of the Minister that the people of Subashgram had taken initiatives to install a statue of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose at the site proposed and designated for the purpose and the statue erected by the villagers on 21.09.2014 at their expenses, was immediately removed on false pretext of the directives of Hon’ble Apex Court’s related to blockage of public passage, roads etc, which is not the case here.
The statue is lying in the Varandah of Gram Panchayat building Subash Gram, Diglipur which according to MP is a great insult of the national hero of the country as his contribution for Independence of the nation are unparallel. The Minister reportedly, assured to look into the matter at the earliest.
