Port Blair, Dec 04: Acting on a tip of information, a joint patrolling team comprising of Janjati Sevak of AAJVS and Police personnel apprehended five persons for illegally intruding and carrying illegal activities in the protected Jarawa reserve area.
On 01/12/2014, on receipt of information about poaching activities in Jarawa reserved area, a joint patrolling team comprising of two staff namely Shri BalramYadav, Janjati Sevak, Shri Mahesh Mazumder, DRM (Dinghy Operator) and HC/1275 K.K Singh and PC/492 Etwa Mahali of OP Tiirur was formed and they conducted patrolling at Bada Nallah area where they found five people namely Shri Niranjan Halder, R/o Collinpur, Shri Ranjit Baroi, R/o Collinpur, Shri Samiran Baroi, R/o Herbertabad, Shri Kailash Joidhar, R/o Herbertabad and Shri Subal Baroi, R/o Herbertabad fishing by net in the Jarawa reserve area at Bada Nallah. Accordingly, they were apprehended for violating the provisions of the Andaman & Nicobar (Protection of Aboriginal Tribes) Regulation 1956. On the basis of written report of Smti. M. Janagi Savuriyammal, RT cum In-charge, AAJVS, Tirur, a case vide Cr. No. 124/14 dated 02/12/2014 U/s 7/8 PAT Reg. 1956 has been registered at PS Ograbraj.
The villagers of Tirur, Herbertabad and Collinpur area are hereby cautioned to avoid venturing into Jarawa reserve area for fishing or other illegal activities, failing which action will be initiated against them, as per law.
