Port Blair, Nov 25: In the series of Mock drills to make the students aware of the importance of disaster preparedness, a mock drill was held today at Model school for the students of Middle Section. The coordinator of the drill Shri Ramesh kumar Singh, Suresh and Bright explained the students the safety measures to be taken during the drill. The exercise started at 10 AM with the ringing of the alarm bell, and the students in the classes sat down under the desks. After a while on the blow of the second bell, they came out of the room and approached to the evacuation route to reach to the safer places.
Meanwhile the rescue team rushed into the class rooms to attend the injured students. The injured were taken outside by the volunteers where they were given first aid. The seriously injured were taken to the ambulance, which took them to the hospital.
In the review session the mistakes committed by the students were pointed out and corrective measures were explained. Appreciating the efforts of the students of the rescue team, the Principal Dr. Dheeraj Kumar said that disaster can’t be stopped, but the preparedness reduces the quantum of damage. In his address he said that the Islands come under zone V of the seismic zone and every individual should be aware of the importance of preparedness.
