Port Blair, Nov 21: A 03 days District Level Training for First Medical Responders (FMRs) was organised by Indian Red Cross society (IRCS), Andaman Branch for NSS Volunteers at Mahatma Gandhi Govt. College (MGGC), Mayabunder w.e.f. 16th to 18th November 2014.
Dr. R. Tulsidashan, Honorary Secretary, Red Cross Society, Andaman Branch was chaired the programme and in his opening remarks stressed the significance of IRC, its activities in the post-disaster relief and the role of NSS Volunteers in times of crisis. Further he called the NSS volunteers should join hands with neighbouring community and serve humanity with dedication. Dr. R V R Murthy, NSS Programme Officer, MGGC also spoke on the occasion and appealed NSS Volunteers to draw the benefits of such hands on training programmes.
Mr. Venkat Ramana, Disaster Management facilitator, delivered power point presentation on the evolution, its activities across the globe irrespective of region and community. Shri. Chanchala Singha Roy, facilitator for IRC gave first hand information about First Aid, handling of casualty during disaster and preparedness for any eventuality. Smti. Geeta Devi, DM Coordinator and Ms. Mridul Mansha, IRC Volunteer was also participated. Altogether 52 NSS Volunteers attended and actively participated in interactive session and they have immensely benefitted from hands on training especially extending first aid to needy.
On concluding day, Dr. B.Prabhuram, Principal (i/c) and Shri. B.S.V. Meera Shetty, Assistant Professor gave away certificates to trainees. Dr. R V R Murthy, NSS programme Officer, MGGC, Mayabunder was proposed vote of thanks.
