Port Blair, Nov 17: Dr. P. Vijayachari, Director, Regional Medical Research Centre (ICMR) has been invited by the World Health Organization, Regional Office for South-east Asia to participate in the “Global Leptospirosis Environmental Action Network (GLEAN) Annual Meeting” which is scheduled to be organized at Colombo, Sri Lanka from 18th – 20th November 2014. The Epidemiology Unit of Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka with the support of WHO will be organizing the meeting. During this event, about 40 international experts from different parts of the world are participating in the meeting.
There would be discussions on different topics on global, regional and national epidemiological situation, updates on operational research, progress and perspectives on vaccines and diagnosis as well as case studies of outbreaks and other topics in the field of leptospirosis, with the ultimate objective of developing strategies for prevention and control of leptospirosis in different parts of the world.
Dr Vijayachari is participating in the meeting in the capacity as a Director as well as the Responsible officer of WHO collaborating Centre for Diagnosis, Reference, Research and Training at RMRC with one of the mandates of the Centre to establish reference laboratories in South East Asia Region, where leptospirosis is endemic.
