Port Blair, November 11: On the directions of the Lt. Governor, Secretary (RD/PRIs) arrived at the Humfrygunj Gram Sabha meeting which was scheduled at 10 a.m on 10/11/2014.
The Lt. Governor had been keen to see that Gram Sabha meetings are conducted in an orderly manner and that representatives of the different Departments attend. Secretary (RD), on arrival, found that quorum for the meeting was not complete. After waiting for an hour, the said meeting was postponed. Now the next Gram Sabha meeting would be held on 17/11/2014.
Secretary (RD) informed the Gram Sabha that this meeting being very important, it should be conducted as per the guidelines and all representatives of various Government Departments to whom the notice has been issued, should sincerely attend this meeting. He also mentioned that in case the officer concerned is unable to attend the meeting, then some other responsible officer would attend but with the approval of Secretary of the concerned Department. He also mentioned that he would be visiting the other Gram Sabha meetings also.
The surprise visit by Secretary (RD/PRIs) has sent a clear message to all Gram Sabha to conduct their meetings in terms of the guidelines and have healthy effective discussions on issues relating to development activities of their villages.
The Chief Secretary has been asked by the Lt Governor to instruct all Secretaries to ensure that responsible officers attend these meetings.
