Port Blair, Nov 11: As many as earthquakes shook the Andaman and Nicobar Islands today within the space of about 3 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) website says.
The first two quakes were reported from Andaman Sea while rest three were reported from Nicobar District. The first quake, measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale, had its epicentre at latitude 07.6°N and longitude 94.5°E in Andaman Sea, occurred at 1108 hours at a focal depth of 16 km.
The second, of moderate intensity, measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale, had its epicentre at latitude 08.0°N and longitude 94.7°E at a focal depth of 18 km.
The third quake, measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale, had its epicentre at latitude 9.0°N and longitude 93.9°E, occurred at 1312 hours at a focal depth of 33 km.
The fourth, of moderate intensity, measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale, had its epicentre at latitude 07.5°N and longitude 94.5°E and occurred at 1320 hours at a focal depth of 33 km.
The fifth quake, of magnitude 4.8, had its epicentre at latitude 7.6°N and longitude 94.3°E and occurred at 13.34 hours at a focal depth of 10 km, an IMD bulletin added. There is no report of any damage or injuries.
