Diglipur, Nov 09: Atleast eight passengers have sustained serious injuries when a bus of State Transport Service (STS) of A & N Administration, fell into a road side ditch yesterday at Kishorinagar area Diglipur, situated at North Andaman region.
According to reports the STS bus left Mayabunder Island at 5.30 AM today and at around 07.45 AM, nearly 13 KM away from Diglipur at a sharp turning the driver lost control over the bus due to mechanical failure.
According to victims due to muddy surface the bus, with 45 passengers, went down into the ditch slowly, after leaving the road, giving chance to many to jump out of the bus.
The Driver and Conductor of the bus reportedly broke down many window glasses to help passengers to come out of the Bus.
According to passenger a Maruti Alto Car was crossing the area, which picked up some victims and rushed them to Community Health Centre, Diglipur while many others were carried by another STS bus, coming from behind.
Some injured who were taken to Kishorinagar Hospital were later shifted to CHC Diglipur, due to lack of Doctors.
“Eight people including two ladies are presently admitted in CHC Diglipur. Out of these eight one suffered fracture on hand while one male patient Pradeep Chakraborty got serious head injuries, followed by eighteen stitches,” CHC Diglipur sources told Andaman Sheekha.
Meanwhile, officials in State Transport Department told Andaman Sheekha that preliminary report says mechanical failure was the reason behind the accident while further inquiry will be carried out in detail.
