Port Blair, Oct 31: The Birth Anniversary of the Iron Man of India Sardar Vallabh Bhai patel was celebrated as National Unity Day, at Govt. Model Senior Secondary School Port Blair, with enthusiasm and National spirit today. The Principal, staff and students paid floral tribute to one of the greatest leaders of the country, Sardar Patel and took pledge to strengthen the unity of India. On this occasion the Principal Dr. Dheeraj Kumar , in his address said that Sardar Patel, being the home minister of the country soon after independence, showed tremendous courage and determination to bring all the reluctant princely states under unified India and ensured that the National unity could never be compromised at any cost.
In today’s context the concept of unity has greater relevance, and the Unity day gives strength to face the challenges, he said. The Principal called upon the students to follow the ideology and principles of the great leader and spread the message of Unity and Integrity of the Nation, in their localities.
Various Competitions were held for the students of different classes, to make them feel the importance of the term ‘Unity’, in a country like India, which has so much of diversity in every field. Students’ performance in the competitions was very impressive. In the debate, titled ‘Celebrating Diversity but working for unity’, the students of senior classes stressed upon the importance, need and challenges on the path of ensuring unity in the country. In the painting, collage making and poster competitions, students expressed their concern for the need of unity in the country, through beautiful blending of colours. Apart from this, quiz and volley ball match were also held.
Earlier the students took part in the ‘Run for Unity’ in the morning while the NCC cadets participated in the March Past.
