Port Blair, Oct 30: As per Administration till October 31 there is a ban on sale of Gutka in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. But Andaman Sheekha has investigated and found that there are several pan shops, which were openly selling Gutka in Port Blair city. In some cases the shops are unbelievably close to the offices of Law Enforcing Agencies.
It has been found that school and college students are openly getting Gutka. Andaman Sheekha followed one lead and found one shop selling Gutka openly. Surprisingly this time the label of the Gutka packet has been changed and on the level only MGM is written. There is no mention of the name of the manufacturer or expiry date of the Gutka, perhaps this was done to trick law enforcing agencies but selling edible products without the details of manufacturer and expiry date is also a crime.
As there is no Label or Trade Mark it is hard to establish that the product being sold is actually ‘Gutka’ but according to ‘Gutka’ lover, the packet contains pure ‘Gutka’. Every Gutka lover knows which are the shops, selling Gutka but Administration is keeping eyes closed.
The Million Dollar question is when Media can find such shops after just one day of investigation, why Food Safety unit and the Law Enforcing Agency can’t find this.
