Port Blair, October 21, 2014: The Central Government Employees Welfare Coordination Committee, Port Blair has elected a new panel of office bearers for the year 2014-15. It will be headed by the present incumbent Mr Bimal Sinha, Chief Engineer and Administrator, Andaman and Lakshadweep Harbour Works (ALHW). Dr M. Sasi Kumar, Director, Anthropological Survey of India has been elected as the Vice Chairman and Dr C.Raghunathan, Officer-in-Charge of the Zoological Survey of India would continue to be its Secretary. Members for its various sub-committees and Executive Committee were also elected in its General Body Meeting held in the Conference Hall of the ALHW recently.
All the office bearers were elected unopposed. The Committee functions under the guidelines framed by the Department of Personnel, Government of India, to try to ensure the welfare of the staff of various central departments and quasi-Government bodies functioning in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Apart from organizing an annual cultural event, the representatives of its member offices gather once in a month to discuss about various issues related to staff welfare and review the progress made on the issues raised by the committee in the past with different authorities. It also deals with finalizing the list of holidays within the framework of the Department of Personnel’s directives.
