Port Blair, Oct 21: In a pre-dawn gambling raid on Diwali night, the District Special Police Team have seized Rs. 70,050/- from a gambling den at Dollygunj and arrested 09 gamblers under A&N Gambling Regulation 1951.
With a view to curb gambling activities during Diwali celebrations, the District Special Police Team have been conducting raids at different places for over a week. Acting on solid information, the team comprising of ASI M. Adbul Rasheed, HCs Sanjay Kujur Surya Narayan Constables Mohd Imran. Ashish Mallick. Rakesh Toppo, M. Raja Rao, Sartaj Khan and Tanuj Kr. Dakua successfully raided a den on Diwali eve in an operation closely monitored by Shri Mohd. Aslam, DySP (South Andaman).
On 20th October (Monday), 09 persons were caught with playing cards and `50000/- on board. Further cash `20,050/- was recovered from their personal search. The following persons namely, (1) Kausar Hussain (41) yrs. r/o Buniyadabad (2) Mohd. Iqbal (45) yrs. R/o Dollygunj (3) Vinashwar Rao (28) yrs. r/o Dollygunj (4) Venkat Swamy (51) yrs., r/o Dollygunj (5) P. Akbar (45) yrs. r/o Calicut (6) Pradeep Narayan (43) yrs. r/o Dollygunj (7) Tapas Pandey (32) yrs. r/o Bhatubasti (8) Shyam Sunder Raj (29) yrs. r/o Dollygunj (9) Vijay Kumar (32) yrs. r/o Dollygunj, were arrested.
