Port Blair, Oct 07: Latest observation indicate that a depression has formed over North Andaman Sea and lay centered at 0830 hrs IST of today, the 7th October 2014 near latitude 11.50 N and longitude 95.00 E, about 250 km east southeast of Long Island. It would move west-northwest towards and intensify into a deep-depression within next 24 hours and subsequently into a cyclonic storm. It would cross Andaman & Nicobar Island close to Long Island by tomorrow forenoon. Thereafter the system would continue to move west-northwestwards for some more time and then northwestwards towards North Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts during subsequent 72 hours.
Heavy rainfall warning:Under the influence of the system, rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and isolated extremely heavy fall (›-25 cm) would occur during subsequent 48 hours.
Wind Warning: Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph would prevail in and around Andaman and Nicobar Islands during next 12 hours. The wind speed would increase gradually reaching gate wind speed of 7-80 kmph by tomorrow, the 8th October 2014 morning.
Sea condition: Sea condition around Andaman and Nicobar Islands is rough to very rough. It would become very rough to high during next 24 hours.
Damage expected over Andaman & Nicobar Islands: Damage to thatched huts. Breaking of tree branches causing minor damage to power and communication lines.
Action Suggested: Fishermen are advised not to venture into sea along and off Andaman and Nicobar Islands during next 48 hours.
