Port Blair, Sept 29: A meeting of the employees working under the State Transport Service was held at Port Blair on 27.09.2014 in which various issues of the STS employees were discussed.
The meeting noted that a large number of Conductors, Drivers and workshop staff in the STS are working on daily rated for a considerable period ranging from ten years and so. They are getting a meager amount as daily a rated employee which is a kind of exploitation of these workers.
Addressing the meeting, Shri B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU State Committee said that hundreds of daily rated employees are working in various departments under the Andaman and Nicobar Administration and the central government and the Administration have failed to take any step to regularize their services. He assured the employees of the State Transport Services especially the daily rated employees that their issues/demands will be taken up with the authorities in the Govt. of India and A & N Administration.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri D. Ayyappan, General Secretary, Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association said that the complete ban on creation of posts imposed by the Govt. of India had adversely affected the promotional chances of serving employees as well as the educated youths of these islands. In the absence of regular posts, the Departments are forced to recruit employees on contract/DRM basis. In the State Transport Services also, hundreds of employees are recruited to run the STS buses but their services are not being regularized even after serving 10 years or more. He said that the central government employees’ organizations and central trade unions in the country are conducting agitations against these anti-working class policies of the central government and called upon the STS employees also to participate in such agitation.
Shri PK Kahlid, General Secretary, Govt. Motor Transport Drivers’ Union (CITU) also addressed the meeting. A large number of employees of the STS department attended the meeting.
