Port Blair, Sept 05: It is reported that
During the celebration of Teachers’ Day today at Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Mayabunder, some students of the school were found standing with umbrella that too inside the main function Hall of M.S.S.School, Mayabunder, eagerly waiting to listen to the Prime Minister of India’s Teachers’ Day Speech. It was raining outside but it was pouring inside too.
It is sad to note that inspite of spending crores of rupees for the education of children of these Islands, one can find students in such pathetic condition.
It is reported that no repair works have been carried out during the last nearly one year in the school. The Cyclone Lehar had caused some damages in the school.
Top officials of Education Department must at least open their eyes and initiate action to undertake such repair works, wherever essential as negligence in repair of school building and roofs may result in major disaster and may cause fatal accidents. The school has 1016 students.
When contacted, some officials on the condition of anonymity said that the matter was reported to NACD, APWD after the cyclone last year but till date the concerned authorities have not initiated any action to repair the school building. This was the condition, when there was only normal rainfall today. One can imagine the plight of students in case of Heavy Rain.
I feel it is improper to drag the PM into this. It is understood the said building has not been used for a long time and earmarked for dismantling. Therefore the school management should not have used the building for conducting such a function.
