Port Blair, Sep 03: Lt. Gen A K Singh (Retd), the Lt Governor of the A&N Islands, today inaugurated a festival exhibition-cum-sale of garments and accessories made by the Islands’ fashion designers and also launched the brand ‘Shobhini collections’. At a brief function held at the Multipurpose hall of YMCA here this evening, the Lt Governor lit the lamp to inaugurate the exhibition.
Organized by the Islands’ Progressive Women Cooperative Society, the objective of the fashion exhibition is to exhibit the talents of the Islands’ fashion designers and also to generate awareness about the scope of self-employment opportunities in the fashion sector in the Islands.
In his brief address on the occasion, the Lt Governor complimented the society for organising the festival exhibition-cum-sales of self made garments/accessories, which he observed will provide scope for self-employment opportunities to the youth of the Islands. He underlined the need for encouraging the spirit of free enterprise among the youth in the Islands and also setting up self-help groups. Such groups must be supported and encouraged by way of providing financial assistance through banks so that more and more people start self-employment ventures, the LG observed. He also witnessed the exhibits displayed on the occasion.
