Rangat, Aug 8: The Port Blair Municipal Council distributed certificates of functional literacy classes-cum-training to regular mazdoors of the Council yesterday. At a function held in the Ambedkar auditorium, the Chairperson, PBMC, Senior Vice Chairperson, Junior Vice Chairperson and Councilors of various PBMC Wards handed over the certificates to 748 employees of various divisions of the Council.
Speaking on the occasion, the PBMC Chairperson, Shri K. Ganeshan said that after the implementation of the 6th Central Pay Commission, the government has made such training mandatory for all serving employees, who do not possess matriculation certificate. As per GoI instructions, the PBMC conducted the training for the regular Mazdoors of the Council to make them eligible for the Group C category posts. After successfully completing the training, all serving employees possessing the certificate are now equivalent to 10th pass qualification, Shri Ganeshan said.
There are a number of promotional posts lying vacant in the PBMC and the employees, who have successfully completed the functional literacy classes-cum-training, have become eligible for promotions as per laid down procedures. Besides, the employees have also become entitled for other government benefits like MACP etc, the Chairperson added.
