Port Blair, Aug 08: The State General Secretary, BJP, A&N Islands Shri Deepak Kr. Jha in a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, A&N Islands pointed out about the Administrational crisis of Electricity Department. He also pointed out different lapses such as posting of Superintendent Engineer in Electricity Department.
A&N Administration had advertised for the post of Superintending Engineer, Electricity Department on 19th March 2012 as the then incumbent Shri. Y.M. Murtaza was superannuating on 30-11-2012.
After preliminary scrutiny, the Assistant Secretary (Power) had forwarded the applications received against this advertisement to UPSC for recommendation of an appropriate candidate for the post of SE Electricity as per the RR of the Department.
“Unfortunately none could be appointed as on date, as the department had not amended the RR of SE Electricity as per the recommendation of VI- CPC, as was done by APWD for SE (Civil) in the year 2010. It is now learnt that the Andaman Administration had initiated the process for amending the RR of SE Electricity. Process which got started in March 2012 has not yet reached its conclusion. This has resulted in keeping the post of SE Electricity vacant till date. Now the department is being managed with the help of unqualified person on ad-hoc basis,” Jha said in a press release.
The Power situation in A&N Island is in its lowest phase. Such a situation was never experienced in the History of these Islands. In view of the above Mr. Deepak Jha has requested the Lt. Governor to take up the issue of recruitment of an regular SE of Electricity Department by amending the RR of SE Electricity on priority basis.
