Billyground, July 27: Hundreds of villagers yesterday came on the road of Billyground Bazaar, protesting against indiscriminate power cuts in Middle Andaman region. Areas like Swadeshnagar, Thoratang, Shantipur, Pinakinagar , Kamlapur, Jaipur, Harinagar and Nimbudera are witnessing regular power cuts.
Although the Administration today clarified that power cuts are because of cyclonic weather, which has damaged many transformers but fuming public yesterday night came out on the road at Billyground with candles and burnt tyres in protest.
Villager alleged that some areas are witnessing around 20 hours long power cuts, which is unprecedented in the area.
Villagers of the area are now demanding stringent action against the EE of the area and JE of Betapur for failing to ensure regular power supply in the area. Villagers allege that the JE Betapur neither takes their calls nor respond to complaints lodged by public.
A group of the villagers are now planning to meet the DC of North and Middle Andaman on Monday.
