Port Blair, July 23: A monsoon walkathon for the personnel of the Naval Ship Repair Yard (NSRY), a premier ship repair organisation of the Andaman and Nicobar Command, was conducted on 20 Jul 14.The theme of the walkathon was ‘Building Team Spirit and Creating Health Awareness’. The event was flagged off by Commodore Debesh Lahiri Commodore Superintendent of the Yard.
The participants walked a distance of seven km starting from NSRY and taking a route through the Foreshore Road. Families including children of Yard employees participated in the walkathon with a lot of enthusiasm. The Commodore Superintendent speaking at the walkathon culmination point brought out the importance of such events in building team spirit among the employees and creating awareness about good health.
He brought out that since the Yard has diverse teams at the workplace, the much required synergy and team spirit is essential to achieve our goal of refitting ships. The walkathon is one such activity to cultivate team spirit among all the personnel of the Yard.
At the end of the walkathon the participants were served warm refreshments, and the children were given gifts by Mrs Jaya Lahiri.
