Port Blair, Mar 28: In order to give monetary compensation for the submerged land to Tsunami victims, the Lt. Governor of A & N Islands Lt. Gen (Rtd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM will meet the top functionaries of Home Ministry during his visit to Delhi on 30 March.
It may be recalled that option, for alternate land or compensation, was obtained from the affected persons and majority of the affected persons had favoured grant of monetary compensation. The issue was taken up during the visit of Union Home Minister in January 2012.
Thereafter, a meeting was held by Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Revenue) in the Ministry of Home Affairs on 15 March, and on 21 March another reference was sent to the Ministry to sanction the compensation before the end of this financial year, as no compensation has been given to them so far.
Mr. A.P. Mohammed, Gram Sudhar Sangam and Mr. A.P. Zabir, Pradhan, Mannarghat Panchayat had met the Lt. Governor last evening to press for the grant of compensation. Lt. Governor has assured them that he is personally taking up the issue with the Ministry of Home Affairs during his visit on 29-30 March at New Delhi.
