Port Blair, July 06: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) A. K. Singh, yesterday called upon the students to work with diligence and strive hard for achieving excellence so that they can catch up with their counterparts elsewhere in the country and make the people of these Islands proud. “Make excellence your motto” he said. He appealed to the youth to follow the ethos of “I can, I shall, I will”.
Inaugurating the Girls hostel building of DBRAIT, the Lt Governor also reminded the faculty of their pivotal role to imbibe in the students a quality of leadership for facing the challenges in life.
The Lt Governor recalled the invaluable contribution of elderly citizens of these Islands towards its all-round development and said that at a time when there was lack of facilities, such people toiled hard and created Andamans what it is today. He saluted the indomitable courage of these people for their contributions.
Turning to the girls’ students present in large numbers on the occasion, the Lt. Governor said that they should dream big and follow them in right earnest till their goal is achieved. “Everything is possible if you have the passion & determination to achieve it,” the Lt. Governor observed. He asked the youth of these Islands to develop the spirit of free enterprise and entrepreneurship.
The Lt Governor expressed his displeasure over the manner in which matters related to development of sports are handled in these Islands. He said that a complete revamp of sports set up in these Islands is necessary. There is need for judicious development of sports infrastructures all over the Islands, the Lt Governor said. Besides, the Sports associations must play a positive role towards promotion of sports in these Islands.
The Lt. Governor said that he had come to these Islands with a mission to serve the Islanders and sought the cooperation of all in taking the Islands forward.
The Chief Secreatry, Shri Anand Prakash, the Adyaksha Zila Parishad, Ms VK Mariam Bibi, the Chairman PBMC, Shri K Ganeshan, the Chairperson SSWB, Smt. Ratna Kannan senior officials of the Administration and the faculty and students of DBRAIT were present on the occasion.
Welcoming the chief guest and others present on the occasion, the Principal DBRAIT, Dr. Utpal Sharma said that the college which started with two small rooms in JNRM campus has now grown into a full- fledged Technical College. The hostel is having facilities such as recreation hall, gym, study room and yoga hall, he added.
The function concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Ms Alka Singh, a faculty member of DBRAIT.
