Port Blair, July 01: Residents of Nayagaon, Chakkargaon, Shadipur, Austinabad and Birchgunj have been facing a peculiar problem for more than six months now. Many residents in the area are not getting their landline telephone bills from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). Residents allege that even after repeated complaints the BSNL is not able to deliver telephone bills.
Mr Sahil Singh a resident of Nayagaon shared his dilemma, he said, “Since last six months I have not received my phone bills, which has created a number of problems for me. My phone has been disconnected quite a few times due to non-payment of bills, which I could not pay since I did not receive any bill. Despite repeated complaints to BSNL, it has failed to post me my landline bills. After complaining they ask my address and noted it, but even then I haven’t received bills.”
Andaman Sheekha got a lot of similar complaints from other major areas also. Residents told Andaman Sheekha that most of them are salaried class people who find it difficult to adjust their monthly budget as they do not receive their bills on time.
Most of the landline phone owners also stated that in the absence of the bill copy, they miss the last date of payment and have to shell out late payment. “Bills keep salaried people on their toes as it reminds them of timely payments. In the absence of bills, I miss the last date of payment and exact amount, ending up paying more than the actual amount. Despite repeated requests, I have not received any SMS alert from BSNL for bill payment,” said Mr Dinesh Moorty, a resident of Birchgunj.
When Andaman Sheekha contacted the Chief General Manager, Mr V Raju, ITS, he assured immediate action and said that BSNL office is also receiving a lot of complaints from the customers.
“We dispatch the bills to Post Office, we will take up the case at the highest level of the postal department, and in all possible means let it be any data or in written, we will ask them why the bills are not delivered to our customers, as we are paying to the postal department. Things should improve after all our customers are suffering because service is provided by BSNL,” Mr Raju added.
