Port Blair, June 05: The lone Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray today demanded CBI inquiry on Kalatang Water Project.
In an exclusive telephonic interview with Andaman Sheekha, the Member of Parliament today said that several lakhs has been spent by Zilla Parishad of South Andaman to construct overhead tank, pump house and well at Kalatang but the Kalatang water project has failed miserably in providing sufficient amount of water for the residents of remote South Andaman area.
“I am the only person who has made a detailed survey of Kalatang area and I can tell you that the Kalatang area has more than one water source. If there is a proper planning to tap the full potential of Kalatang water source, the water shortage problem of remote South Andaman villages will be solved forever. Only thing which we lack in this issue is coordination,” Ray added.
Targeting APWD he said that the Andaman Public Work Department has installed three pumps sets, which are not working and there is only one DRM to look after those pumps.
“The area needs just one 70 HP pump-set and 300 mtr long pipe of four inch diameter. Now if this pipe is connected with the main pipe line, the area will get 80 Lakh litres of water but now the area gets hardly 50,000 lts of water,” the MP added.
Earlier this morning the Member of Parliament, Mr B P Ray was first MP, who was sworn in the Parliament because in Parliament Members were administered the oath on the basis of the alphabetical order of their states and UTs.
There are 315 new MPs in the 16th Lok Sabha, the highest in the last three decades. These numbers include MPs who might have been Members of the Rajya Sabha before, but have been elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time.
