Port Blair, May 28: Mr. .K. Ganeshan, Chairperson, PBMC convened meeting with fruit vendors of Port Blair municipal area at 11.00 a.m. on 26.5.2014 at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Auditorium. More than 20 fruit vendors of Municipal area such as Mohanpura, Schoolline, Delanipur, Haddo etc. attended the meeting . He also met the flower vendors at 12.00 noon.
Mr. Shanmugavel ,Chairperson ,PH &S sub committee, Dr. Abhijit Roy, Public Health Officer, Mr. V.P. Tiwari, Sanitary Officer, Mr. Amit D ‘Souza, Food Inspector, Mr. K. Kumar Revenue Officer , Mr. John Mathew, Organizer and all Sr. Sanitary Inspectors of the Council were present in the Meetings . Mr. K. Ganeshan, Chaiperson, PBMC briefed the fruit vendors and the flower vendors present in the meetings that the new Solid Waste Management System is in the process of implementation of municipal area. He further said that about 80 MT of Solid Waste is collected and transported to dumping yard daily by the council for which more than 1800 sanitary employees are deployed .This is being done without levying any extra or additional charges.
Under the Solid Waste Management System the council propose to collect solid waste at source level with effect from 1st June ,2014 on payment of nominal service charges. Meeting were also held with various trade organizations such as hotels, restaurants , vegetable vendors, Marriage hall owners , Private clinics & hospitals and medical stores , General merchants, Stationery Shops etc. and they have consented to pay the service charges for collection of waste at source. He then requested the fruit vendors to express their views & suggestions.
Mr. Mohamed Mukhtair, President , Fruit Vendors Association agreed to pay service charges @ Rs. 1.00 per day per vendor to PBMC. On behalf of flower vendors Mr. Uday Chandran, Aberdeen Bazar and Mr. Nagasundran, Delanipur consented to pay Rs. 1.00 per day per vendor to PBMC as Service charges. The fruit vendors as well as the flower vendors present in the meeting appreciated the council for its effort in the field of solid waste management . The Chairperson thanked the gathering for their valuable suggestions and requested not to through garbage/waste into drains and public places.
