Port Blair, Apr 07: Considering the Coming Lok Sabha Elections the Andaman and Nicobar Police has intensified checking of all vehicles in Islands to check illegal distribution of liquor and cash among voters.
However, general public, who are not used to such thorough checking have cried foul and reported inconvenience.
“If you drive from Delanipur to Marina park and then towards Shadipur via Murgan Temple, your car will be stopped and checked atleast thrice. Driving with family has become too much difficult due to such checkings,” said a Port Blairian, who had to explain cops this evening, why he was carrying an extra pair of shoes in his car. “This is intrusion in our privacy,” he added.
When contacted the Superintendent of Police of South Andaman, Mr. Chinmoy Biswal urged public to cooperate with police.
“Such intensified checking is being done to check distribution of liquor and cash before elections by unscrupulous elements to influence the voters. Police is duty bound to conduct such checking,” he said.
He said that such checking is being carried out to ensure free and fair election.
“Police staffs are performing their duties sincerely and public is requested to cooperate with police,” he said.
