Diglipur, Feb 25: To commemorate Coast Guard’s 37th raising day, Coast Guard District Headquarters -9(A) of North & Middle Andaman, organized an open engine dinghy race on 22 Feb. 2014 for the fisherman helms of North Andaman as part of CG Day celebrations. The event was organized to appreciate talent and to promote sportsmanship & spirit of competition amongst fisherman folks.
The event was held on 22 Feb, 2014 at aerial bay jetty. A Total number of 12 fishing boats participated in the race. The race commenced at 0600 hrs. The dinghies covered a total distance of 06 km. MV Kali Mata stood first in the race followed by MV Lakshmi and MV Shashidar.
Commandant Arun Singh, COMDIS-9 distributed prizes to the winner, runner up and 2nd runner up. Participation certificates were also given to all participants. Shri Shailesh Kumar, AFDO was also present during the event. The event was witnessed by local fishermen flock with enthusiasm.
