Port Blair, Feb 23: Last week Andaman Sheekha had reported about the Fisheries Market of Neil Island, which was constructed nearly a decade back but not even for once the Market was used by the Fishermen. The Fisheries Market constructed without any study or thought caused loss of huge amount of public money.
In yet another case of wasteful expenditure of public money, a building for work shed was constructed more than a decade back at Guptapara under MPLAD fund. But the building remained totally unutilized for years and years until recently when the building was re-inaugurated by the Secretary Fisheries Mr. Onit Panyang, as Fisheries Out Post. Before inauguration some repair works were carried out by the Administration but sadly again the building remains unutilized.
At present only one room of the massive building is temporarily used by Animal Husbandry, other than this the building is totally empty. No fishermen go there for any kind of work and hence most of the time the building remain totally empty.
The building, which was constructed and repaired wasting lakhs of tax-payers’ money is now in horrible shape. Beams have fallen weak and room may collapse anytime.
Such wasteful expenditure of funds again shows that how insensitive are we towards utilizing public money. On one hand dozens of school and hospitals runs without proper building and on the other hands buildings like these are left to the elements.
