Port Blair, February 20: A communication has been received from the Govt of lndia/Bharat Sarkar, Ministry of Home Affairs/ Grih Mantralaya, New Delhi about insult or disrespect of the Indian National Flag on several occasion regarding the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971 and Flag Code of India, 2002 for strict compliance of the provision contained in the Act and the Flag code.
On important events, the National Flag made of plastic are being used in place of paper Flags. Since, plastic Flags are not biodegradable like the paper flags, these do not get destroyed for a long time. This affects the dignity of the Flag. Also plastic, not being biodegradable, is harmful to the atmosphere.
This is brought to the notice of General Public to ensure that on important national, cultural and sports events, only Flag made of paper are used by public in terms of the provisions of the Flag Code of India and such paper Flags are not discarded or thrown on the ground after the event. Such Flags are to be disposed off in private consistent with the dignity of the Flag.
The provisions contained in the Flag Code of India and Prevention of Insult to National Honour Act, 1971 are to be complied with by all of us strictly.
