Port Blair, Feb 05: An exciting montage of skill, adventure and operations of the Indian Armed Forces will be on display at the MILAN Display to be held tomorrow at the Netaji Stadium from 1500-1700. The display will be open for public. Senior delegates, and crew of ships from the foreign nations participating in MILAN 2014, besides senior officials from the state administration, police and armed forces have been invited for the event.
The display will commence with Sky Diving display by 17members of the Akash Ganga sky diving team of the Indian Air Force. The sky divers will jump from a height of about 8000 feet and would achieve a descent speed of almost 120 miles per hour before deploying their parachutes. The team will land exactly in the centre of the stadium to demonstrate their skill and control over the parachutes. This will be followed by a Karate display by the martial arts team of Andaman and Nicobar Police. The team comprises 38 brown belts qualified personnel. This would be followed by Dog display by Andaman and Nicobar Police Dog Squad Unit in which the skills of highly trained dogs of the squad would be demonstrated. Thereafter, the audience would also be afforded the rare opportunity to witness Thai Boxing and Fencing performed by a team from the Thailand Navy. The team would display varied forms of unarmed combat including stand up striking along with various clinching techniques. The display would be followed by motor cycle display by the Army Services Corps motor cycle display team aptly named ‘The Tornadoes’. After the action packed events, an inspiring musical performance by the Army Band of 23 Rajput Regiment and the Naval Band of the Eastern Naval Command and INS Jarawa will provide the entertaining segment.
The MILAN Display will for the first time, showcase the medical emergency capabilities of the Rapid Action Medical Team (RAMT) of the Indian Air Force. The RAMT is a completely self-contained unit with all components for setting up a 25-bedded hospital. It also contains facilities for providing intensive medical care. Support equipment like fork-lift, mobile generators along with all essential medical equipment can be conveyed in 38 containers. The special feature of this field hospital is that it can be air-lifted or mobilised by ship to the site of disasters in far-flung locations and set up in a matter of hours. The Indian Air Force has three such RAMT units of which, the unit based at Hindon has set up the display for MILAN 2014. The RAMT was inaugurated for MILAN Display yesterday by Air Marshal P K Roy, PVSM, AVSM, VM, VSM, ADC, Commander-in-Chief, Andaman and Nicobar Command.
All spectators are advised to arrive 30-40 minutes prior the commencement of the event.
