Port Blair, Jan 15: A recent move of Education Department, to invite only some selected candidates for verification of certificates, has upset thousands of unemployed local youths, who have been waiting for the final results of the recruitment process of 422 odd PGTs and GTTs in Education Department.
Highly upset and confused youths allege that the Department has called only a few candidates, who had applied for PGT posts for verification of their certificates that too very secretly. Candidates fear that the appointment letters will also be perhaps handed over to them secretly.
Sources told Andaman Sheekha that these candidates were given the date of 20 Jan 2014 for verification of their original certificates.
“How they can call only a few candidates for verification of certificates when the merit list has not been displayed or published in newspapers yet. How can we believe that the selection process was transparent?” questioned an unemployed youth
When contacted the Assistant Director of Education, Mrs. Leela Verghese clarified that no call letter for any appointment has been sent to anyone yet. “We are only calling some candidates to verify certificates. Rest all details will be published in the website of A & N Administration within two day,” the Assistant Director clarified.
However, insiders told Andaman Sheekha that even if the Department publishes the merit list the merit list of only selected candidates will be made public, which will again leave space for speculations and rumours. Hope the Department will publish the complete merit list of all applicants so that everyone can understand where they stand in the merit list and there remains no space for any kind of speculation, allegations and rumours.
On one hand authorities talk of transparency, on the other verification of certificates of select candidates are allegedly being conducted covertly. Why this contrast Hon’ble Sir?

For PGT Home Science, earlier, the candidates from Alagappa University were rejected about 2 years ago. Now the forms of the candidates have been accepted without a proper change in the Recruitment rules. It seems that Education department is still in medieval era practices and have complete corrupt approach in appointment process. How will the quality in education come to my islands?? I request Andaman Sheekha to investigate the same and inform Hon’ble LG, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma and Hon’ble MP. ANU
