Port Blair, Jan 11: The A&N Administration is vigorously trying to introduce international flight services to Port Blair. The Civil Aviation department is constantly perusing the matter with the Ministry of Civil Aviation to impress upon the Indian registered scheduled airlines to provide a stopover of International flights bound for South East Asian Countries at Port Blair. Also the department has approached foreign airlines like Tiger Airlines and Silk Airlines of Singapore, Lion Air of Indonesia and Air Asia in Malaysia to provide a stopover of their flights bound for cities in India from South East Asia or introducing a fresh route to Port Blair from any of the nearest cities of South East Asia. A positive outcome is expected soon on this.
Further, as a part of airport modernization plan, a new integrated terminal building with all modern facilities of international standard will be constructed at Port Blair airport by the Airports Authority of India. The foundation stone for the new terminal building is expected to be laid shortly. Also for facilitating night operations, navigational aids installed at the airport will be upgraded by adding Glide Path Indicator to the Instrument Landing System, a communication from Commissioner-cum-Secretary (CA) said here today.
