Port Blair, Jan 05: Barbers’ Association in association with City Congress organized a meeting at Anarkali Basthi on 31st December, 2013 in their association building to submit their grievances before the PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma for onward submission to the proper authority of AN Administration, who has attended the program as Chief Guest.
The Adviser of Barber Association, Manickkam briefed the woe of the Barber community that the barber community belongs to weaker section of the society having very low income status.
He stated that throughout their existence of 50 years, when 1000 families residing throughout the islands and about 500 of such families and about 150 barbershops in the city, nobody took care of them though they are rendering their best and sincere services silently to the civic society and requested for OBC Status, educational scholarships to their children, a piece of land for construction of their small dwelling houses and various other schemes which their counterparts at mainland are getting.
Kuldeep assured that their issues will be submitted at appropriate level. He has also appreciated their sincere works for the civic society and accepted their importance in the society.
PCC Vice President Hamid Ali, former PBMC Chairperson PB Murgan, Dist President RV Reddy, CCS Secretary Chandrasekhar have also spoken on the occasion. Vote of thanks was proposed by Secretary, Barber Association Rajendran. City President ARASelvam, Prez City Congress has conducted the meeting.
