Port Blair, Dec 18: Animal Science Division, CARI, Port Blair organized a 3 days training programme on Scientific goat, pig management and rural poultry farming from 03.12.2013 to 05.13.2013 in Tapesia, Kamrup, Assam in collaboration with College of Veterinary Science, Assam Agricultural University in the tribal village of Tapesia under North Eastern Hill Region-component of Tribal Sub Plan.
The programme was inaugurated in the presence of Shri Dhiren Doloi, 1st Headman, Tapesia, Kamrup as the chief guest of the programme. Dr. Jai Sunder, Dr. M.S. Kundu and Dr. T. Sujatha coordinators for Goat, Pig and Rural poultry components of the programme, Dr. A. Saleque, Principle Scientist & Officer In charge, Goat Research Farm, AAU, Burnihat, Dr.K.Sharma, Officer Incharge, AICRP-FMD, AAU, Khanapara, Dr.N.Nahardeka, Professor & Office In charge, AICRP-goat improvement, AAU, Burnihat and Dr. P. Gogoi, Assistant Research Officer, DDL, DAHV, Assam were participated as resource personals. The resource personals introduced about the CARI, Port Blair and its activities under NEH component of TSP. The 1st Headman highlighted the importance of this training programme for the benefit of the tribal community to get enhanced income and profit from the Animal Husbandry programmes. He thanked the Director, CARI, Port Blair for selecting this village under the Tribal Sub Plan for improvement of the Animal Husbandry practices. He also motivated the trainees to take active participation and utilize the opportunity for up-gradation of their knowledge.
During 3 days of programme, various aspects on scientific management of goat, pig and rural poultry such as feeds and feeding, housing, management of kid, piglets and chicks, and health care and vaccination were covered by the resource personals and experts of CARI. The various inputs such as goats (13), pig (10) and chicks (250) along with feed, medicine and mineral mixture were distributed to 36 adopted tribal beneficiaries. The training programme was concluded on 5th December. Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director, CARI, Port Blair & Nodal Officer, TSP along with Dr.A. Kundu, Head, Animal Science Division, CARI, Port Blair guided and supervised the overall training programme.
