Port Blair, Dec. 16: The India Reserve Battalion, Andaman & Nicobar Islands celebrated its Raising Day on 16th Dec, 2013 at its Port Mout complex. Early in the morning, the Commandant, IRBn hoisted the battalion flag and reviewed the Samman Guard. The focus of the Raising Day celebration was organizing socially relevant programs with a view to public service. The day was eventful with the IRBn personnel cleaning up the area in and around the Corbyn’s Cove beach in the morning. Blood donation camp was organized in association with the Blood Bank, GB Pant Hospital in which thirty (30 units of blood thus inspiring the Jawans to follow suit. Also an eye donation awareness camp was organized under the National Programme for control of blindness with the officials from the Eye Donation Centre, GB Pant Hospital, twenty-one (21) personnel pledge to donate their eyes for the good cause. In addition to the above activities, 95 saplings were planted by the Jawans in the complex which includes fruit bearing, ornamental and flowering plants among others. Each sapling was earmarked to the respective Jawan who planted it with the objective to foster bonding and to provide good care of the plant for lifetime.
Besides, various sporting activities for the IRBn personnel were carried out which included company-wise tug of war, volleyball, etc. Drawing competition and various games were organized for the children and prizes were distributed for each and every event. The eventful day culminated in the evening with the hosting of ‘Bada Khaana’ by the battalion for its personnel and family members.
