Rangat, Dec 11: As a part of conducting National Environmental Awareness Campaign 2013-14, a Walkathon was arranged by the GREENO ECO Club of GSSS Sabari today, which was participated by the Greenos and teachers of the School. Greenos carried banners, placards and posters starting from the school premises passing through the main ATR road of Sabari village covering a distance of 1 KM.
The theme of the walkathon was “Biodiversity Conservation: Our Role”. Greenos shouted slogans to protect environment, saving biodiversity, minimize the use of plastics and use alternatives for poly bags.
The walkathon was flagged off by Shri T Sebastin, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Rangat. He appreciated the Greenos for taking such initiatives to protect environment and appealed to them that every living creature has its own importance in our Biodiversity and its our prime duty to conserve nature in order to protect our Biodiversity.
Earlier Principal of the school welcomed the chief guest and the gathering. He lauded the efforts taken up by the Greenos and appealed them to be careful and responsible towards their environment. He further added that we have been witnessing a total degradation of our environment through river pollution, forest depletion, and land degradation.
The rally was aimed at generating consciousness for conservation of environment, Biodiversity Conservation which witnessed a culmination of about 500 students from classes VI to XI who participated with full enthusiasm.
