Port Blair, Dec 09: Naval Ship Repair Yard, Port Blair has been conferred the prestigious ‘Unit Citation’ by Chief of the Naval Staff on the occasion of ‘Navy Day’ on 04 Dec 13. The highest institutional award of the Indian Navy is awarded to four selected establishments all across the Navy based on their performance in the areas like Security, Assistance to Operational Units, Training Initiatives, Research & Development, Social Responsibilities, Human Resource Development, Sports, Land & Infrastructure Development, Green Efforts etc.
Naval Ship Repair Yard Port Blair, the largest industrial establishment of Andaman & Nicobar Command and the smallest of the five ship repair yards of the Indian Navy has been playing significant role in rendering maintenance support to naval ships at Andaman& Nicobar Islands. In addition to professional excellence, in line with the Indian Navy’s and Andaman & Nicobar Command’s policy on knowledge sharing, human resource development and commitment to environment, NSRY conducted various environmental programmes and visits by students from various local institutes to provide hands on exposure to high end technology. In a significant step towards enhanced Civil-Military cooperation, under the directives of Headquarter Andaman & Nicobar Command and Naval Headquarters, NSRY has presently docked MV Dering of A&N Administration on Floating Dock Navy-1.
In recognition of various Human Resource Development initiatives of the Yard, NSRY was awarded the ‘Chief of the Naval Staff Trophy for Excellence in HRD’ earlier this year. Floating Dock Navy of NSRY was awarded ‘Unit Citation’ on the last Navy Day. It is a rare distinction for any military establishment to win institutional awards at the service level in a rowor simultaneously.
