Port Blair, Dec. 09: The National Food Security Act 2013 shall be implemented in the UT of Andaman & Nicobar Islands. According to the Act, all the BPL & AAY ration card holders who are under eligible household and priority category should be issued with cards with the eldest female member of the household registered as head of the family.
Hence, all the ration cards issued under BPL & AAY category will be converted with the eldest female member of the card as head of the family. However, it may be noted that BPL & AAY card holders need not convert in the name of women as Head of Family if there is no female member at all in the BPL/AAY ration card; there is no female member in the BPL/AAY ration card above 18 years of age as on today and the existing BPL/AAY ration card is already in the name female member.
The list of BPL and AAY ration card along with application form has been sent to the respective Fair Price Shops from where it can be obtained. All concerned have been requested to fill up the form along with one photograph & Bank A/C details of the proposed Head of Family (Female) and submit with the original ration card with the respective Fair Price Shops for onward submission to the Directorate of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs by Dec. 15, 2013, a communication received here said.
