Port Blair, Dec 04: A training programme on “Value Addition of various Fruits” was organized by Union Territory Agricultural Technology Management Agency (UTATMA), Directorate of Agriculture in association with the NGO, Association of Catholic Andaman 8s Nicobar Islands (ACANI) in the Fruit Preservation Unit, Haddo on 04.12.2013 for the benefit of various self group members under the Capacity Building / Skill Development component of Centrally Sponsored Scheme “Support to State Extension Programmes for Extension Reforms”.
ATMA since its constitution in these Islands is engaged in imparting various training programme on need basis to extension functionaries, farmers and Self Help Groups members.
The training was inaugurated by Mr. Anjan Kumar Das, Joint Director (Agri.), HQ. In the inaugural address he has briefed about the training programme and encouraged the participant’s for value addition of fruits which is having more value. Father Evans Suares, ACANI, Mr. M.M.Hassan, Agriculture Officer and Mr. Navasakthi, Agriculture Officer were also present in the inaugural programme.
Training on preparation of different value added products like lemon squash, lime pickle, papaya jam and banana chips were imparted during the programme. The training was imparted by Smt. B.L.Lathika, Agriculture Assistant, Incharge, Fruit Preservation Unit, Haddo and Smt. Heera Bai, Agriculture Field Assistant.
All together 25 members of the various Self Help Groups from Diglipur, Mayabunder, Rangat, Little Andaman, Long Island, Kalapahad, Shoal Bay and Prem Nagar have participated in the training programme.
Mr. M.A.Salam, Director of Agriculture was the chief guest in the valedictory programme. He also requested the participants to make best use of this training so that the purpose for organizing the programme can be fulfilled.
Participants, Miss Asha Toppo from Diglipur and Miss Asha Pratibha of Long Island has shared their views about the training programme. Earlier Smt. B.L.Lathika, Agriculture Assistant, Fruit Preservation Unit, Directorate of Agriculture has briefed about the details of the training conducted. Father Evans Suares, ACANI thanked the Department of Agriculture 85 UTATMA for organizing such skill Development programme. He also thanked the participants for their active participation. The Chief Guest, Mr. M.A.Salam, Director of Agriculture has distributed the certificate of participation to the participants. Smt. Kunti Kumari, Agriculture Field Assistant has welcomed the chief guest, ACANI officials and participants.
