Port Blair, Nov 21: A DGCA team is reaching Andaman and Nicobar Islands soon to investigate the possible reasons behind falling off the emergency door of a Pawan Hans Helicopter in mid-air near Chowra Island of Nicobar Groups of Island.
“Andaman and Nicobar Administration charters helicopters from Pawan Hans Ltd, who also take care of safety, maintenance and repair works. This matter has been reported to DGCA and a team of DGCA will be reaching soon in Andaman to examine the helicopter,” Mr. Amit Satija the Director-cum-Secretary of Civil Aviation, A & N Administration told ‘Andaman Sheekha’ today.
The incident took place yesterday when the emergency exit door of the helicopter broke off in mid way during the flight. According to reports no passengers or pilot sustained any kind of injuries. The helicopter made an emergency landing at Chowra Island at about 11:30 AM IST.
Satija informed that the helicopter was on its way from Campbell Bay, the southernmost landmass of India to Car Nicobar Island, the capital Island of Nicobar District, when the incident took place.
He added that pilots were brought to Port Blair on the same day while the passengers were shifted to Car Nicobar soon after the Accident. He further added that soon after the incident another helicopter was deployed for Chowra Island for shifting the passengers to Car Nicobar.
“Pawan Hans takes A & N Administration as a client very seriously and they do not compromise with safety. Everyday routine safety checks are carried out by Pawan Hans. The DGCA team will conduct detailed inquiry and submit a report,” Satija added.
Presently A & N Administration is chartering three Helicopters and one Sea Plane from Pawan Hans Ltd.
