Port Blair, Nov 20: As part of preparation for the Mock Disaster Management Exercise scheduled to be held on November 22, 2013, the briefing for observers was held on November 19, 2013 in the Situation Room of Directorate of Disaster Management jointly by Brig. (Dr.) B. K. Khanna. Sr. Specialist (ME), National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Smt. Punya Salila Srivastava, Commissioner-cum-Secretary (DM&RR). Mr. J. K. Sinha & Mr. B. Bhattacharjee Hon’ble Members, NDMA and Col. B.B. Singh, former Joint Advisor (Communication & IT), NDMA also participated in the meeting. Through a power point presentation, the roles of observers were elaborated in the briefing.
The salient features of the disaster preparedness and relevance of Early Warning Communication Systems with reference to Uttarakhand and A & N Islands were also discussed during the briefing by the Members of NDMA.
Smt. Sakshi Mittal, Dy. Commissioner (Nicobar Dist.), Mr. Akhil Kumar, Asst. Commissioner (C/Bay), Asst. Commissioner (Nancowrie) and Smt Meneka. Asst. Commissioner (Rangat) also participated in the observers briefing through Video Conferencing.
The proactive role for establishment of Early Warning Communication Systems and organization of Mock Exercise by the A & N Administration were appreciated by the Hon’ble Members of NDMA.
