Port Blair, Oct 03: The A&N Police celebrated World Elders Day on 1st October across the islands. On this Day, meetings were held with senior citizens at various Police Stations of South Andaman and North & Middle Andaman District to understand their concerns & problems. Hundreds of elders citizens enthusiastically took part in the meetings to share their issues and made suggestions for more effective police–public relations. Issues of domestic violence, alcoholism and suicides were also discussed and the views of senior citizens were invited to deal with them.
The Day coincided with launch of a six-day training programme of Beat staff of Police Stations in Port Blair area to strengthen the Beat system for better law enforcement. Beat staff of the police stations were present to receive and interact with the senior citizens. They will meet the elderly people in their jurisdiction on weekly basis.
