Port Blair, October 3: International Elder’s Day was celebrated at Chinmaya Mission, Port Blair. To mark the occasion, a ‘Bhajan Sandhya’ was organised in the Mission premises here yesterday. The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) A.K. Singh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, was the chief guest at the function where he felicitated altogether 11 senior citizens of the Islands. In a befitting gesture, the Lt Governor walked down from the stage for the ceremony. These senior citizens contributed extraordinarily in various fields and are above the age of 80 years. Member of Parliament, Mr. B. P. Ray, Chief Secretary, senior officers of the Administration, elderly persons and prominent citizens were present.
Hon’ble Lt Governor while addressing the gathering, complimented Chinmaya Mission for the good work they have been doing for the welfare of the people and the society at large. He noted with appreciation that the Mission is working with the objectives of propagating moral values and also bringing joy in the lives of the people. Referring to the International Elder’s Day celebration, he stated that this day reminds us of the contributions of senior citizens towards the society. “Our endeavour should be to take care of them and give love and affection to our elders, but most of all give them the respect and dignity they deserve”, he said.
In his address, Swami Shuddhananda Saraswati, Resident Acharya of the Chinmaya Mission highlighted about the significance of the occasion and the activities of the Mission. Earlier, President of Chinmaya Mission, Port Blair, Mr. Sundernath welcomed the chief guest and other invitees.
