Port Blair, Oct 03: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) A.K. Singh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, led the Islanders in paying tributes to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary. At a simple function held at Gandhi statue, Mohanpura, here this morning, the Lt Governor offered floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. Member of Parliament, Mr. B. P. Ray, Chief Secretary, senior officers of the Administration, President of Political Parties and other office bearers were present at the ceremony. Large gathering of prominent citizens, Govt. Officials and school students also paid tributes to the Father of the Nation. On the occasion, prayers from all religions were recited followed by singing of Bhajans and Ramdhun by school children.
Earlier, the Lt Governor visited Gandhi Park and paid floral tributes at the statue of Gandhiji.
