Port Blair, Sept. 30: The Andaman & Nicobar Administration shall organize a national level mock exercise in collaboration with primarily Ministry of Home Affairs, National Disaster Management Authority, National Institute of Disaster Management, National Disaster Response Force, INCOIS, IMD and Ministry of Earth Sciences from November 20 to 22, 2013 in the islands to inculcate the spirit of disaster preparedness and to improve our emergency response.
The mock exercise will not only emphasize testing of communications from warning centre to its stakeholders, but also provide an opportunity for testing local chains of command and decision-making, including the alerting and evacuation of people from selected coastal communities. It will also provide an opportunity to test, improve upon/approach emergency response plans and tsunami preparedness.
In this connection, the Administration shall organise competitions for slogan writing on disaster and naming of suitable title for the proposed Mock Exercise in both Hindi and English.
Three levels of competitions in the respective languages shall be organized viz. school students (age group 6 to 11), school students (age group 12 to 18), college students (age group 18 to 25) and adults (age group 25 and above).
Each category of competition will comprise a cash prize of Rs.5,000 for slogan writing and another Rs.5,000 for best title for the exercise. The slogans selected will be used in Information Education and Communication (IEC) activities during the exercise.
